The National Centre of Refurbishment Excellence (CoRE) was set up in a collaboration with the Building Research Establishment (BRE), serving as a national training facility for the techniques and materials needed to refurbish the UK’s housing stock to the highest modern standards to conserve both energy and water.

The impressive site demonstrator, located in a Grade II Victorian pottery, is aptly in a Conservation Area. The historic buildings provide 6,000m2 of flexible exhibition space where new products, components and materials can be demonstrated, and training can be given on realistic ‘house-sized’ constructions. The complex also includes conference and meeting facilities used to bring together key stakeholders in the UK retrofit sector to share best practice and foster collaboration across the industry by organising national and international events.

New CoRE website launch addresses stakeholder needs

A consortium of funding providers commissioned Plinkfizz to scope the project requirements, foster relationships with key stakeholders, identity key influencers within the sector and onboard their skills.

As part of the process, a full brand proposition was developed, including the design and build of a new website to enable a soft launch to market, address key stakeholder needs and to promote the CoRE venue to secure sponsorship income and facilitate events.

Six months later, following a successful initial launch, the website was enhanced to address the needs of a growing membership, sponsors and stakeholders. This included identification and integration of relevant event management software and payment gateway integration.

A key part of this phase of development included the creation of a Closed User Group member log-in function that allows members and sponsors to upload information including job vacancies, product and service information, white papers, logos and images.

The area also allows members to view content related to their appropriate membership/sponsorship level – with each level having different parameters set i.e. number of job vacancies to be posted, amount of times profiles can be updated within a given period, number of uploads to be made and downloads permitted.

A flexible approach to website architecture and structure

The website and audiences had changing requirements during a relatively short period of time (12-18 months), meaning that a flexible approach was needed to the website architecture and structure, which allowed change in line with project needs.

All technical and operational processes were specified and delivered by Plinkfizz, in line with the project’s business plan.

CoRE secures significant sponsorship income within six months

Within six months of a go-live date, significant sponsorship had been secured from national energy supplier, E.On.
