Staffordshire marketing communications consultancy Plinkfizz has supported the appointment of a Town Crier for Burslem to help spread good news about the Mother Town.
This historic role was once the only means of bringing news to the people, and is a far cry from the multiple channels of communication the Newcastle-under-Lyme based agency now uses to spread the word for their clients.
Fiona Hawkins, owner and MD of Plinkfizz, said she was delighted to be approached by the Burslem Regeneration Trust in Stoke-on-Trent to sponsor the new voluntary role which has been filled by Steelite’s popular Tommy Dawkins MBE, who has spent most of his life in the town.
Tommy has already made his ceremonial debut, having begun the weekend of festivities at the recent Burslem Festival riding on top of a bus into St John’s Square.
Fiona said: “I think it’s wonderful that we’ve been able to sponsor the Town Crier given that we’re also in the communication business, and with our strong links to the town through our work with Haywood Academy and the City Learning Trust.
“There have been lots of positive improvements in Burslem so there’s plenty of good news to shout about, and we wish Tommy well in his new vocation. I can’t think of a better man for the job.”
Other local businesses who have helped to support the work of the Trust include Autonet, Steelite, Synectics Solutions, GMB Trade Union and local councillors from their ward budgets.
