Open evening gave potential students a first look at Stoke-on-Trent’s new vocational Studio College

Potential students and their parents were given their first chance to see inside Stoke-on-Trent’s new construction skills college.

Stoke Studio College will open in September 2012 and will provide a vocational education for students from the age of 14-19.

The Studio College is based at the new £11.4 million Centre of Refurbishment Excellence centre, Longton, and will focus on vocational education in construction skills.

It is one of only 12 new “Studio Schools” which will open across the country in 2012.

Working closely with local employers, Studio Schools will combine studying towards mainstream qualifications, including GCSEs in English, Maths and Science, with work-based projects led by employers.

Sarah Robinson, College Principal, said: “Stoke Studio College will provide a new kind of educational opportunity for young people in Stoke-on-Trent.

“The curriculum will be tailored individually to each students’ needs and the environment will feel much more like a workplace than a school.”

Potential students and parents took a welcome tour of the Stoke Studio School and meet staff from Stoke on Trent College between 6pm and 8pm on 7 February.
