Free event offers older people advice on staying independent
A free event aimed at providing older people with information about the range of services available to them is being held at Staffordshire Housing Association’s flagship West End Village.
The information and awareness event takes place at the village off London Road, Stoke, on 31 July (10am to 1pm).
A range of health and community organisations will be on hand to give help and advice to visitors.
These include:
- Cancer Awareness
- QUIT smoking
- Revival Home Improvement Agency
- Approach (supporting older people with mental health needs)
- Supporting People
- Ableworld (mobility aids)
- Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service
- Staffordshire Police
- North Staffordshire Carers Association
- Adsis (Alcohol and Dependency Specialists)
- Diabetes UK
- SLIMBS (Staffordshire Limphoedema Information Management Buddying and Support Group)
- Hearing Dogs
- Douglas Macmillan Hospice
Michelle Potts, Manager of West End Village said: “Staffordshire Housing Association is committed to helping older people to make the most of their lives.
“This exhibition will give people from in and around North Staffordshire the chance to hear about many of the services available to them.
“The free event is open to all and we look forward to welcoming visitors to the West End Village on the day.”
West End Village provides 100 apartments for residents aged 55 and over.
The complex, opened in early 2011, also has communal facilities including a gym, hairdressers, general store and restaurant.
The complex, close to Stoke town centre, was named as the most outstanding extra care complex in the UK Over 50s Housing Awards 2011.
It allows residents to live independently while having access to a range of staff and services when they need them.
