2012 festivities create demand for British products

A year of celebrations and sporting events across the UK has seen a greater demand for British themed products from Stoke ceramics company Emma Bridgewater.

The feel good factor across the country has created public demand for Emma Bridgewater patriotic products which since May has produced retail sales of more than £400k.

During the past three months the company which makes all its pottery in Stoke-on-Trent has sold more than 30,000 British themed products including Union Jack, Great Britain, Sporting London and Wonderful London mugs, and limited edition mugs for Starbucks. 

The current best seller and most iconic piece is the hand sponged Union jack half pint mug priced at £19.95 which has sold nearly 6,000 units since May.

Owner Emma Bridgewater said: “We are a manufacturing company that is proud to be British with every single ceramic piece made in our factory in Stoke-on-Trent.

“2012 has been a tremendous year of British festivities, from the launch of the Olympics this week, to Euro 2012 and the Diamond Jubilee celebrations in June. This has created an immense patriotic feeling across the nation, resulting in a greater demand for British-themed and British-made products.

“It’s great to see that people are celebrating a truly British year by buying products that are made in England.”
