Hibberts Solicitors are supporting St Luke’s Hospice Wills Week by waiving their will writing fee during that week in return for a donation to the Cheshire charity.
Will Week runs from Monday October 9th to Friday 13th and this is the second year St Luke’s have run the fundraising campaign alongside national Hospice Care Week, which aims to change perceptions of hospice care.
Anne Walley, a partner at Hibberts Solicitors specialising in wills, probate and trust and tax planning, said this was the second year the firm had supported the cause, and the response to this year’s Will Week campaign has already been good.
She said: “Last year Will Week was really well received by our clients and this year is proving to be no different.
“As a firm we’re always keen to support local community causes which include fundraising campaigns with Cheshire Wildlife Trust, Cancer Research and at the Douglas Macmillan Hospice in Staffordshire.
“We’ve already taken a number of enquiries asking for appointments, and we’re delighted to be involved with this campaign again. We have strong links to the hospice, supporting their Living Well Dying Well project, where we’ve helped to run sessions to help educate people about planning for their future and a will is an essential part of that process.
“Without a will a person dies ‘intestate’ which can make something as simple as arranging a funeral difficult as you need to know the wishes of that person. It’s also important to consider who to appoint as an executor of your will who can deal with your finances and be involved in distributing your estate.
“A will can cover everything, from who would look after your pets to distributing your personal possessions to certain friends.
“Put simply, making a will simplifies everything and makes the whole process easier for everyone concerned.”
Amy Magee, Campaign and Donor Development Manager for St Luke’s Hospice, said: “The legal team at Hibberts have been fantastic with their support of our Will Week. Last year donations helped to raise over £11,000, and this money plays a vital part in funding our service, in particular in financing our specialist nursing staff.
“As a hospice we take a holistic approach to care offering patients access to complementary therapies, support and care at our hospice based in Winsford and complementary therapy centre in Sandbach.
“Hibberts raised £3,893.75 for us last year, and were great at explaining Gift Aid to their clients which boosts our donations, as it allows us to claim the tax back from a donation.
“We also benefitted from someone who actually left a donation to St Luke’s in their will, which was incredibly generous of them. We were delighted.
“A lot of people think wills are something you do in your 60s and beyond, but it’s so important for people to realise how important they are in planning and securing the future of your family, no matter how old you are.”
